Our skin is what protects us from external aggressions and it’s the largest organ in our body, regulating and managing hydration and temperature.

Following winter’s cold days, make the most of springtime to repair and hydrate your skin thoroughly before summer arrives.

To begin the process, start with basic steps such as a regular cleansing ritual and select hydrating lotions according to your skin’s needs.

Nutrition. The ingredients you choose to include in your diet each day determine the overall health of your skin.

Try to fit healthy fats such as those found in avocado, virgin olive oil and (unsalted) nuts into your daily diet as they contain anti-inflammatory properties and Vitamin E which help protect your skin from oxidation. Fish is the skin’s friend too, with salmon and mackerel providing omega-3 fatty acids, essential for our body.

Those with a tendency for allergic reactions can present symptoms such as redness, swelling and itching and should pay extra attention to their skin routine. Whole grain cereal and beer yeast are good allies when it comes to preventing irritation and dryness. The properties of these ingredients include complex B Vitamins. Choosing whole grains over processed types will help keep glycaemia levels stable and avoid energy slumps.

Vitamin C plays an important role in your skin’s health too, as it promotes collagen and works as an indirect moisturizer. You’ll find it in natural sources such as citrus fruits, kale, broccoli, tomatoes and peppers. These vegetables also provide a large volume of minerals that play an important role in your body.

Spices such as turmeric, most often found in curry dishes, have antioxidant and photoprotective properties. If you haven’t tried turmeric yet, try adding it to your meals and ingesting it with black pepper and olive oil to guarantee a higher absorption. There are also a multitude of teas and infusions with soothing and antiseptic properties to calm irritation, such as chamomile, thyme or lavender.
