Yoga: Sun salutation
The Sun Salutation, or Surya Namaskar, is one of the most essential yoga sequences; a gentle transition of movements designed to be the best way to start the day. By following this combination of asanas – either the long or short version – you will focus on the body’s major muscle groups, finding the perfect balance between strengthening and stretching.
Some yogis swear this is the practice that most helps them to enjoy all the benefits of yoga, even if they don’t have the time for a regular one-hour practice session.
Adopting this exercise into our daily routine can represent incredible benefits, according to a study shared by the International Journal of Yoga. The study was carried out on 124 college students, divided into two groups. The first group practiced the Sun Salutation sequences every day, while the second focus group did not participate in any type of activity or exercise. In just two weeks, the study showed that the first group felt greater calmness, had an increased ability to focus, reduced levels of stress and experienced a happier, more joyful existence overall.
