Make-up & workouts - 3 reasons why they don’t match
Everything has its place - and make up at the gym isn’t one of them. After all, you don’t train in high heels either, right?
Presenting our top 3 reasons why you should leave the makeup at home and workout without wearing a drop of the stuff.
#1 Make-up won’t make it to the end of your workout
If you are planning to really break a sweat and enjoy yourself at the gym, you can’t be worrying about foundation slipping or eye-liner dripping. If you’d like to wear make-up during a fitness class, for instance, you should consider a hydrating foundation whit a touch of colour. This would be the least damaging of all choices as long as you remove it before your skin begins to cool down to prevent the pores from closing and trapping make-up substances. Even water proof make-up won’t withstand you grabbing for your towel every now and then, so it’s best to go make-up free.
#2 It can damage your plan for smooth and clean skin
Sweating is the body’s natural air conditioning, helping you to cool down when exercise begins to overheat your body. If you are planning to jump, squat, dance and move freely, no matter what class you’re taking, don’t wear any makeup. Take the opportunity to allow your pores to dilate with no ‘pollution’ on the surface. Clogged pores are bad news for your beauty plans - when you wear make-up, your pores absorb it and have a tendency to build blackheads and pimples.
#3 It can be a waste of time and money
Each morning, you may spend a few minutes (or plenty) getting ready with lashings of foundation, compact powder, blush, eyeliner, shadow and lipstick. But then you face the dilemma of having to remove it all and apply it once again once you’ve completed your workout…
If you train in the morning you can avoid this by applying your make-up at your gym after your training.
If you workout at other times in the day, there is no going around this except having a set of basic products and simplifying routines for separate times of your day. If you exercise later in day and you’re going home afterwards, maybe a hydrating cream or a serum are the best choices.
You should remove your make-up prior to your workout with a cleanser, preferably sulfate-free, to avoid skin dryness and inflammation. Avoid rubbing your face in towels or clothes, rather pat it gently to remove sweating. A special cleanse every two or three months depending on your skin type is a way to keep your skin healthy and clean.
For a home-made solution follow this simple, natural, soothing and hydrating face mask:
• 1 small cucumber - peeled
• 1 tablespoon of honey
• 2 tablespoons of natural yogurt
Blend the cucumber to a pulp, add the honey and the yogurt and mix to incorporate it well. Place in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes. Apply with a brush or use your fingers and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Rinse off.
