Weight, BMI, muscle mass, metabolic rate... Here is what our trainers access on your first visit and how it can help you track your progress.

Your path to amazing health starts with one, simple step: by understanding your body, inside and out.

That’s what our Personal Trainers (PTs) help you to do. At your initial assessment and in your following check-ups, they measure everything about you - from the quality of your muscles to your metabolic age - to shed light on your unique physical needs and specifications. So what exactly do they measure, and how will it benefit you?

Body Fat Percentage & Body Fat Mass

Fat is crucial in maintaining a healthy body temperature and protecting your joints and organs. However, too much of it can be detrimental, leading to poorer health in the long-term.

To check that you’re carrying a healthy amount of fat, our PTs will assess your body fat percentage (the percentage of your overall weight that’s attributed to fat) and body fat mass (the actual weight of your fat). If you’re carrying too much, they’ll work with you to create a high-calorie-burning exercise plan, focussing on slimming down in a healthy and safe way.

These metrics are useful over time, too. As you exercise, your muscles grow and get heavier, so even if you’re losing fat, your overall body weight might not shift by much. By discerning how much of your total body weight is fat and how much is other, you’ll have a clearer picture of your progress.

Segmental Muscle Mass

Based on your goals, our PTs can measure the strength of your individual muscles (your arms, legs and core abdominal area) to find areas of improvement. You can use this information to create a tailored weight-training plan. By monitoring these stats thereafter, you can also can keep tabs on your progress and spot muscle imbalances, giving you time to correct them before they lead to injury.

Total Body Water

The water in your body helps to regulate your temperature and dispel waste - and our bodies need a lot of it. With experts recommending that you carry 45-60% (if female) or 50-65% (if male) total body water, it’s vital that you drink plenty, particularly after an intense workout. By assessing this metric, your PT will make sure you’re healthily and happily hydrated.

Basal Metabolic Rate

Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the minimum amount of energy or calories your body needs to act properly. In your assessment, our PTs can use this metric to figure out whether you’re exceeding this amount or falling short, and work on an eating plan with you that’ll boost your lifestyle. In addition, by checking your BMR over time, they can accurately adjust your plan depending on how much exercise you’re doing (the more you do, the higher your BMR will be, and the more calories you’ll need).

How to calculate your metabolical age?

Basal Metabolic Age

Your basal metabolic age (BMA) is calculated by comparing your BMR to others in your age group. If your BMA is higher than your actual age, it indicates a lack of healthy muscle tissue, indicating that you and your PT should include some muscle-focused exercises in your new fitness plan.
