Healthy sweets for Halloween

As a child, you’ll probably remember ‘Trick or Treat’-ing: wandering round your neighborhood in all manner of grisly costumes with your pack of friends (or unwilling parents) and being proud of the amount of candy and sweets you managed to collect.

As an adult you might want to cut it down and try to keep it as healthy as possible for your own kids. This is why we’ve “translated” some season favorites into healthy versions.

The extra benefit? You can prepare them with your children and make a special moment out of the occasion.


Ghost bananas (makes 8 little ghosts)

Half a dark chocolate bar

4 medium bananas

Melt half a bar of dark chocolate in the microwave for about a minute. Mix and repeat until it’s smooth and creamy. Peel and cut the bananas in half. For an extra treat dip the banana bottoms in the chocolate and let cool. With a chopstick drip chocolate in little drops on to a baking sheet and let it cool. Try to get the chocolate drops to have a pointy tip. Push the chocolate into the bananas making a tiny and delicious ghost face in each.


Orange Pumpkins

(makes 6)

6 oranges
1 apple
1 pear
A hand full of grapes
1 banana
1 hand full of red fruits

Grab your selection of favorite fruits (apples, pears, bananas, grapes, etc). Wash and chop them in small pieces.
Cut the top of 6 oranges and carve them with a spoon, removing as much pulp possible without damaging the peel. Draw the shapes of eyes and mouth like you would to a Halloween pumpkin. With a knife cut out the shapes in the peel and with a spoon fill the oranges with your fruit salad.


Raw “Caramel” Dip

(for 4)

4 apples
1 cup of Medjool dates
1 tea spoon lemon juice
¼ cup almond milk
1 tablespoon of coconut oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon sea salt

Cut the apples in slices and set aside. Soak the dates for a couple of hours and blend until spot. Mix all the ingredients and mix until the blend is smooth adjusting the salt to taste.
