The Sirtfood Diet

Posted in Nutrition

Men’s and women’s nutrition requirements differ for several reasons. Women’s hormones can impact the absorption of certain minerals and vitamins, so they should make adjustments in their diet to keep the right balance. Minerals and vitamins for which women may require supplements include calcium, iron, Vitamins B6, B12 and D. Men, however, need to concentrate on fiber, magnesium, Vitamins B9, C and E.

That premise applies to weight loss diets as well. Men’s and women’s nutrition requirements impact which weight loss diets are more effective for each sex.

If you’re like most people, you’ve seen an amazing number of weight loss programs and trends come and go; almost all of them have their merits and almost all of them work — temporarily. Weight management and medical professionals contend almost unanimously that the age-old, tried-and-true combination of good nutrition and regular exercise is the best way to effectively lose weight and keep it off.

The Sirtfood Diet: For Women Only?

When the Sirtfood Diet began trending, women universally heaved a sigh of pleasure. Finally! Not only permission to indulge in the two most pleasurable edibles in the world — dark chocolate and red wine — but encouragement and rationalization! On the other hand, men may review the diet and ask, “Where’s the beef?”

What is ‘Sirtfood?’

“Sirtfood” is food high in sirtuin proteins. The super-foods that are included in the Sirtfood Diet include:
• Apples
• Blueberries
• Buckwheat
• Capers
• Citrus fruits
• Dark chocolate at least 85% cacao
• Extra-virgin olive oil
• Green tea
• Kale
• Medjool dates
• Parsley
• Red onions
• Red wine
• Rocket
• Turmeric
• Walnuts

It's reported that a diet high in these “super-foods” will:

• Burn fat
• Increase muscle mass
• Regulate metabolism

The Diet — Phase 1

For three days, limit calories to 1,000/day and limit foods to three sirtfood green juices or smoothies (any combination of celery, kale, parsley) and 1 meal/day sirfood-rich (turkey/chicken with capers, parsley, sage). Beginning on day 4 through day seven, increase calories to 1,500/day with 2 sirtfood green juices or smoothies and 2 sirtfood-rich meals/day.

The Diet — Phase 2
For the following two weeks, you’ll see a steady weight loss as you eat 3 sirtfood-rich meals each day and one sirtfood green juice or smoothie.
How Is This Diet Different?

The Sirtfood Diet is different from other diets you’ve tried because you won’t see dramatic weight loss. Proponents say you’ll see solid weight loss that is steady and offers the promise of long-term benefits. As with any dietary shift, you should consult with your GP or medical practitioner before beginning the Sirtfood Diet.

You’ll find recipes galore on the internet or can create your own using lean meat, fruits and spices. Sides can include fried red onion in olive oil, buckwheat and steamed kale.
