Some days, it can feel like all you want to do is lie on the couch watching movies rather than working out. To give yourself a bit of motivation to hit the gym on those days, check out these empowering movies featuring intense female workouts. If they can do it, so can you!
In this movie, Demi Moore's character undergoes training to become a U.S. Navy Seal, an elite military fighting force. To complete the training, there are no female workouts; the women must be physically able to do everything that the men can do. Failure to complete an exercise means dropping out of the training program, so giving up is not an option. This movie is incredibly inspiring as you watch Jane continue to advance through the training, even as some of her male counterparts drop out.
This classic film chronicles the story of a young boy who moves to a town that doesn't allow dancing. However, dancing is his passion, and he slowly starts converting others in the town to his cause. Aside from the foot-tapping music that makes you want to get up and dance along with the characters, this movie inspires you not to worry about the naysayers (even yourself). It motivates you to do what you love and what makes you happy, no matter what anyone else thinks. As an added bonus, a young Kevin Bacon offers some great eye candy!
While Quentin Tarantino's movies are not everyone's cup of tea, this movie, featuring Uma Thurman, is the epitome of a woman kicking some butt. Her character devises a "Death List" of enemies that she plans to take down. Throughout the film's two parts, you see flashbacks of her training to become the ultimate warrior mixed in with some spectacular fight scenes. You don't need to have your own death list to be inspired by this movie; simply think about anything that is making you angry and let that fuel your workouts, giving you the strength you need to power through.
Bridget Jones' Diary
While this may not be your first thought when it comes to movies that inspire female workouts, it is actually incredibly inspiring. Nearly every woman can relate to the titular character's struggles with her weight, battling laziness and yo-yo dieting. She is easy to relate to, and by the end of the movie, you are cheering her on to achieve her goals and attain happiness. Seeing her go through similar struggles to those that you have likely gone through at some point in your life and win out in the end can motivate you to get back into the gym to achieve your own goals.
Regardless of whether you were a fan of the original TV series, the 2000 film version with Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore is a lot of fun to watch. The jokes can get a bit campy at times, but that's all part of the fun. Aside from that, there are plenty of action sequences involving the three lovely leading ladies as they take down the bad guys. This upbeat movie inspires you to get in shape to do your own butt kicking, whether in the gym or in your personal life.
