Ana Rita Rosa – Holmes Place Portugal Membership Administration
What is your passion and what do you love about it?
When I was invited for the Our People interview, I considered speaking about my training routines. But then I decided to speak instead about a passion that I have outside Holmes Place. I trust that this is probably something that defines me better. Every Wednesday night I volunteer to help the homeless. I don’t know how to explain the feelings afterwards when we return home at the end of the night. I would say that it is something similar to the sense of fulfilment, a feeling of gratitude for having helped someone with so little, a sensation of gratefulness for everything we have and that sometimes we take for granted.
How did you begin and what stands out in your journey?
I started this journey with a friend of mine. I always wanted help others in some activity, so when he invited me I thought it could be a great experience. Guess what? That was exactly what happened. It is very gratifying to be able to help others and this can be done in a very simple way. My contribution to this project isn't reduced to only distributing a meal but mostly by taking time to talk with homeless people. Most of the times, more than a meal, what people really need from us is affection and sympathy. Sometimes, the most important thing is to have someone with whom to speak, someone willing to listen to them and ready to hear about who they are and knowing their names.
What are your next goals?
On a personal level, I would very much like to be able to participate in a volunteer experience with children in Africa. Even here in Portugal, I would like to try other volunteer areas. On a professional level, I would like to challenge all my colleagues and my company to participate in a volunteer experience. Since this has been such a great experience for me, I think that they too would feel this happiness. And they too would surely enhance their journey and feel the gratitude for everything they have.
