The Hollywood workouts of this year’s Oscars nominated stars

Before last night’s results, it was clear that the Oscars' nominees were already winning big in terms of fitness, sporting some of the finest physiques in Hollywood. Which begs the question: what are their secrets?

Meet the Hollywood workouts of this year's Oscars nominated stars:

Margot Robbie,

Best Actress, I, Tonya

This Aussie actress takes an “active” approach to her career, to say the least. Often choosing quite physical roles, Margot goes above and beyond to stay fit, and prepares for her characters by following vigorous exercise routines: she reportedly skated for three months prior to shooting I, Tonya, so that she could take to the ice herself on camera. This isn’t the first time she’s prepared for her films by working out, either - for her role of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, she adopted a mix of cardio training, Pilates and swimming to firm up her muscles, and would exercise for two to three hours per day. Now that’s dedication.

Willem Dafoe

Best Actor In A Supporting Role, The Florida Project

Willem Dafoe (AKA, Spiderman’s Green Goblin) swears by three things to maintain his chiselled physique: his juicer, the school run and 90 minutes of ashtanga yoga every day.

If you’re not familiar with the exercise, it’s definitely worth giving it a go (after all, Willem is now 62 and still looks phenomenal). Synchronising your breath with a range of postures, ashtanga yoga helps to purify your body by detoxifying your muscles and organs. But if you want to catch up to this forever-young actor, you’d better start now: he’s been practising it for 25 years.

Mary J. Blige

Best Actress In A Supporting Role, Mudbound

For us, Mary J. Blige has the very definition of a dream body - and her secret is simple.

“My main exercise is cardio,” she revealed in an interview for SHAPE. “The treadmill is fine, but running outdoors gives me the best results. I try to log 6 to 8 miles a week. I could be in the worst mood, but when I do my cardio I feel much, much better.”

We hear you, Mary. Maybe this was not the type Hollywood workouts that you were expecting, but the fact is that along with running, she also dabbles in swimming and strength training to spice things up: to explore our classes in these areas, find your local club.

Sam Rockwell

Best Actor In A Supporting Role, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Sam Rockwell has one, very simple rule to his exercise routine: consistency. “Keep moving,” he says. “Keep the blood flowing.”

This may come as no surprise to those who are familiar with the Seven Psychopaths actor, who’s been in enough action films to prove his love for all things athletic. For him, regularity is key, and he makes sure to enjoy a range of physical activities alongside his staples (he’s been a keen boxer for 15 years).

“I’ve done every type of workout you can imagine, from boxing to SoulCycle to yoga,” he told the New York Post.

Surprisingly, he’s also a dab hand at lassoing. Who’d have known?
