The role of meditation leading innovation in the wellness and fitness industry by Holmes Place Group CEO

What is “innovation”?

It derives from the Latin word for“new”. We “novate” (re-new) agreements. We renovate (make new again) our clubs.

Dictionaries explain that“innovation” is the act of introducing something new – but how to do it? “In”-“novation”, as theword suggests, happens inside of us.

It is a mental process and happens through focusing our mind. When we focus the mind on something, we begin to perceive it clearly and understand it at depth!

Good news is . . . that we are all inherently capable of focusing the mind and innovating.

Bad news is . . . that these days, we struggle to focus our minds on anything - try it! Close your eyes and focus your mind on one thing/thought/question and see how long it remains focused before jumping to other things.

Our mind behaves like a monkey constantly moving from branch to branch on a tree, never stopping in one place. This constant movement of mind is the opposite of focus and weakens our capacity for innovation.

In my experience, the daily practice of meditation has been the most effective way of increasing my capacity to focus the mind and “innovate” in business.

“Innovation” in business is all about answering the following questions:

Who is the target market? What are they really looking for? How can I supply it to them?

Anyone who can really focus on these questions will at some point achieve clarity and have their “Eureka” (innovative) breakthrough.
